The gods are dead, the sun no longer falls or rises, there will be no more Varl, even the serpent that is supposed to devour the world is confused as to what is happening. Most stories involve passing the torch to the next generation however in the Banner Saga there is a very strong thematic sense of the end. I think think thematically Alette taking the arrow is the better narrative choice. (Bow chicka bow wow.better get to work on that new generation guys) And in my rook ending game, Egil survived, so.you know. The only way i could see the allette ending happening is if rook told her no, then during the battle somehow he lost the arrow (missed, knocked out, etc.) and alette picked it up and took the shot.Īlso the rook ending features alette "becoming someone else" as Iver puts it, and donning a hood. (I think it has to do with the base instinct of thats where our future comes from, save them above all else) Rook would neverrrrrr let her take the shot. But I don't believe any father, under any circumstance could ever be willing to knowingly put his daughter in that situation. Not to sound cheesy but as a father myself i could understand maybe, possibly, being willing (under extreme "end of the world" circumstances) to put my young adult son in harms way for the sake of saving all humanity. So it doesn't feel right to me that he would let his daughter put herself in such a situation that could easily lead to her death. He says something like "what will you do when Bellower comes straight for the person carrying the weapon that can kill him?" Juno also makes it clear that Rook is very caring/protective of his daughter after reading his mind in Boersgard. He knows the danger the person carrying the silver arrow will be in when Alette asks for the arrow. However, from Rook's perspective, I feel he would never let Alette take the shot. The banner would be weakened without Rook so he must live. Therefore, what would happen to the banner with Rook dead? Would the caravan follow Alette? Probably not. Rook was handed the Skogr banner because Oddleif thought that the caravan would never follow a woman. Storywise, considering TBS2 will pickup the story exactly where TBS1 left off, I feel Alette should take the shot.
